As many of you know our little girl Brianna has been diagnosted with cancer (Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia) We created this blog to be able to share our stories going through this, since we have a lot of family and friends that would like be updated on how things are going.
It was October 30th and We had all gone for a walk around the block and about half way We noticed that Brianna was tired and no longer wanted to walk, which for all of us that know Brianna was something very rare. So I carried her back to the house. As we were sitting in the front room Abril noticed that she looked very pale and had looked like that for a few days. So we decided that we would take her to the doctors the next day which was Halloween. Abril called and setup an appointment for noon to go see the Doctor, who's office is located in Murray right by my work, so that I could come over on my lunch and help with the kids since they were pretty excited to go trick or treating, so we plan to take them to my office afterwards. So noon came and we went to the doctors office. She checked Bri everything looked fine, since she was eating good, playing, no fevers, no nothing to worry about... the doctor was about to let us leave, and we asked her to do a iron test just to make sure everything was alright. As the nurse came and did the iron test she looked at the results and said that it couldn't be and went for another tester. She came into the room took the test again and just left the room immediately a couple minutes later the doctor came in and said that we need to go to the lab and have some blood test done that the results from the iron test were very low and that a test at the lab would identify the issue, and that they would ask for the results ASAP, so they would let us know in a few hours what the labs showed. So we went and had the blood drawn and while we waited for the results and to help distract our worries we went to my office and let the kids trick or treat and then went to Mayra's to celebrate Kemish's birthday (Brianna's cousin) and trick or treat in there neighborhood. As we were preparing to go to Pistol Pete's we received the phone call from the doctor... it started out with "I hate to ruin your Halloween" but you need to go to the emergency room at Primary Children's Hospital right away they know you are coming, take a bag with clothes because you could be there a few days. So we asked what it is She had and the Doctor just said that it appears to be a serious sickness in her blood but would not confirm what it was. So we left Koby and Breydan with Abril's family and went to the Hospital. Since my mom works close by She meet us at the hospital. Once we were received in the emergency room they started an IV and took blood from it after a couple of hours they took Brianna back and had some chest xrays done about two hours after that they said the doctor would be in soon. So we asked the nurse if they had any idea what the blood results showed and She said that Brianna had a rare blood disease but that the oncology doctor would be in to confirm and tell us what kind it was. So after waiting for what seemed an eternity the doctor came in and started to ask if we had any cancer or if our extended family had cancer and a bunch of other questions we got tired of all the question and asked her to just confirm to us what she had. The Doctor then told us that She has Leukemia but that she would have another doctor look at it and confirm it the next day. we felt shocked since she didn't have any other symptoms like bruses or bledings or pains... then the doctor told us that Brianna would be admitted into the hospital and given a room in the ICS wing, and that She needed a blood transfusion that night. The first thing we thought was that she needed a blessing and we knew that Our Father in Heaven was with us. We didn't wonder why Brianna, or why now and why our family. We thought of all things that had prepared us for that moment. Right away we felt our families support with my mom being there with us and my bother in laws Moises and Israel coming to help us with a blessing. We also had the support from my boss Josh and his wife Angela who I kept updating about the situation. It was so hard to think that our princess had that kind of a sickness and that she would have to stay a while in the hospital. It was one of the hardest nights of our lives.
